What is a Slot?
A slot is a narrow depression, groove, notch, or slit, especially one designed for receiving a coin or other item: a coin slot in the front door of a store; a slot for a key on a lock. Often used as an informal synonym for time slot: She’s been slotted into the four o’clock meeting.
Slot is also an adjective that means:
A slot machine is a casino game in which you can win credits by spinning reels that stop to match symbols. The symbols vary by game, but classics include fruit, bells, and stylized lucky sevens. You can choose to play for free or use real money. You can insert cash or, in some machines, a paper ticket with a barcode. Then you activate the machine by pushing a lever or button (either physical or on a touchscreen), which spins the reels and then stops them to rearrange the symbols. When a winning combination is created, you receive credits according to the paytable. You can find the pay table by clicking an icon near the game screen. This will launch a window with all the information you need to start playing.
